Course Description

The Utility Safety Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) portfolio of schemes has been developed in collaboration with industry to provide a uniform approach to health, safety, and environmental awareness training across the utilities sector, in line with Health and Safety Executive guidelines.

The Utility SHEA (Waste & Resource Management) scheme is affiliated with the CSCS to allow Waste & Resource Management industry workers access to construction sites for purposes of utilities work without the need to complete a separate CSCS card.

Course Aims

The course is designed to provide evidence that an individual has demonstrated an appropriate level of knowledge and awareness. This is an Energy & Utility Skills passport scheme, which is recognised by the UK utility and construction sectors.

Who Should Attend?

The Utility SHEA (Waste & Resource Management) scheme is designed for individuals who require access to operational sites within the waste industry, both permanent and temporary, including all levels of operatives, supervisors, and management. A Utility SHEA (Waste & Resource Management) passport lasts for three years from the date of training.

How is the course delivered?

An EUSR-accredited trainer delivers the course which consists of 8 modules:

  • Understanding our workplace responsibilities
  • Understanding the effects of our work on the environment
  • Identifying and controlling risks
  • Common hazards and controls in the workplace
  • Occupational health hazards
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Introduction to the waste sector
  • Waste collection and transfer

Candidates must successfully complete a multiple-choice test for each of the modules.

How long will the course last?

This is a 1-day course. Our courses run from 8:30 - 16:30.

What is the course eligibility?

Candidates should have a proficient level of English to participate in this course.

What are the course pre-requisites?

There are no pre-requisites for this course.

What PPE is required?

No PPE is required for this course.

What certificates will be achieved?

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be registered on the Energy and Utility Skills Register, where registrations are valid for 3 years from the date of the training. Candidates will also be issued a Virtual EUSR Registration card. Physical cards can be provided upon request.
