Course Description

The Polyethylene Butt Fusion training programme has been developed to offer a practical introduction to individuals working within the water utility sector and wishing to gain experience, confidence, and competence in the Butt Fusion jointing of polyethylene pipes. The course will also further enhance the skills and experience of individuals working within water distribution network operations.

Course Aims

The course aims to highlight the importance of correct equipment selection, ensuring equipment is fit for purpose, inclusive of preparation of the materials to be welded and work practices to meet current Water Industry Specifications (WIS).

How is the course delivered?

An EUSR-accredited trainer delivers the course which is split into two main areas. Firstly, the theory of Butt Fusion jointing of Water mains.

Secondly, a practical demonstration, followed by the trainer observing candidates safely and competently completing Butt Fusion jointing of water mains.  

Candidates are required to successfully complete a written assessment at the end of the course.

How long will the course last?

This is a 1-day course. Our courses run from 8:30 - 16:30.

What is the course eligibility?

Candidates should have a proficient level of English to participate in this course.

What are the course pre-requisites?

There are no pre-requisites for this course.

What PPE is required?

Candidates should bring appropriate PPE as follows:

  • Safety Glasses
  • Gloves
  • Hearing Protection
  • Hard Hat
  • Waterproofs
What certificates will be achieved?

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be registered on the Energy and Utility Skills Register, where registrations are valid for 3 years from the date of the training. Candidates will also be issued a Virtual EUSR Registration card. Physical cards can be provided upon request.
