Working in the gas industry means safety has to come first. With so many potential hazards on sites, there’s no room for shortcuts or guesswork. Everyone on site, from new operatives to experienced managers, needs to be confident in handling risks and protecting both people and the environment.
This is exactly what SHEA Gas training is designed to achieve.
What is SHEA Gas training?
The Utility Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Gas scheme has been created with the help of the industry to set a clear, consistent standard for safety and environmental awareness.
The course is recognised across the UK utility and construction sectors. It also ties in with the CSCS scheme, so workers can access construction sites to carry out utilities work without needing a separate CSCS card.
For anyone needing to work on gas sites, SHEA Gas training provides essential evidence of safety knowledge and practical understanding.
Why does it matter?
Gas sites can be high-risk environments, involving everything from excavation work to working on pressure regulating installations. One small mistake can have serious consequences.
SHEA Gas training helps ensure that everyone on site knows how to identify hazards, control risks, and respond properly to incidents. Participants cover important topics including:
- Workplace responsibilities and duties
- Reducing environmental impact
- Recognising and managing risks
- Common workplace hazards and how to control them
- Occupational health considerations
- Emergency procedures
- Working safely on highways and excavations
- Handling pressure regulating installations
- Staying safe in different premises
Completing SHEA Gas training shows that a worker is fully prepared and takes safety seriously, which is vital for both employers and clients.
Who should attend?
SHEA Gas training is designed for anyone involved in operational activities in the gas industry who needs site access. This could include operatives, supervisors, or managers.
After completing the course, participants receive a Utility SHEA Gas passport which is valid for five years.
